National Honor Society
The West Salem High School National Honor Society is a community service organization that strives to uphold the pillars of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. It is composed of juniors and seniors, and members participate in a variety of chapter projects including two Red Cross Blood Drives, Trick or Can Food Drive, The Giving Tree, and Relay for Life. Along with these chapter activities, NHS members must volunteer a minimum of 15 hours to organizations of their choice throughout the school year.
West Salem High School students are invited to apply for the National Honor Society in February of their sophomore year. Students must have a minimum of a 9.0 (on a 12 point scale) cumulative GPA in order to be invited. The application process involves creating a portfolio that includes letters of recommendation and evidence of community service hours. Members are then selected by a faculty council and inducted in May.
