On Thursday, September 28, 2017, West Salem Elementary School was honored to be recognized as one of 342 schools named as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2017 by the U.S. Department of Education.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap.
West Salem Elementary Principal Ryan Rieber gave the following statement:
"This recognition is humbling knowing that we are one of the 342 schools across the country to receive this award. This truly is a community award. We would not be able to have the community that we have without our schools, and our schools are what they are because of the support throughout the West Salem community. This recognition is not solely reflective on the staff and students that are currently at West Salem Elementary, but this recognizes all of those that have worked here over the years. Without everyone's help, support, and commitment, raising the achievement levels of all students would not have been possible. Thank you to all of our staff, students, parents, and community supporters for providing us the opportunity to reach for excellence on a daily basis."
