No Shave November - West Salem High School's campaign against cancer

11/17/2014 8:16 am

THIS JUST IN (11/19/14)
Thank you. What started as a fun challenge from a student on Twitter evolved into a community-wide show of support for cancer. We set our goal at $725; some believed we wouldn't get there. In the end, we raised over $1,600 to benefit the West Salem Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. This was truly a team effort, and there are many people to thank:
-Sophomore Chase Ostrem and Twitter for starting it all
-My 1st hour sophomore class and Mr. Borre for helping refine our ideas
-Administration for giving us the backing to move forward with this
-Ms. Peterson, Ms. Williams, Ms. Murphy, and the office staff for working daily to keep us on track
-Ms. Key and Mr. Hughes for brainstorming ideas for incentives with me
-Ms. DuMars and Mr. Bahr in the district office for helping promote our cause on social media and the district website
-Features in West Salem for donating free bowling as an incentive to donate
-Assignment editor Nick Marcou, photojournalists Greg White and John Schmidt and WKBT News 8 for promoting our cause region-wide on Friday at 5pm and Tuesday at 6pm and 10pm
-Coulee News reporter Jourdan Vian for writing a story on our efforts (Thursday, 11/20)
-Students, staff, and parents/guardians for donating and for promoting our cause
-The 15 staff members who offered to grow beards to raise awareness for cancer

Thank you, all. I believe we can make the event bigger and better next year.
