Odyssey of the Mind (OM) -At Worlds in Michigan

May 20-24, Wednesday- Sunday, 6 teams from West Salem traveled to East Lansing, MI to compete in Odyssey of the Mind World Finals.  In total, 847 Teams from 16 countries and 33 US states were there to compete.

Highlights:
*Pin Trading (meeting children from all over the world)
*Opening Ceremonies - similar to the start of the Olympics
*Team Wheeler 41st place, 80% in Spontaneous and displayed outstanding teamwork and perseverance when one of their vehicles failed. Division 1 Problem 1
*Team Hein 31st place Division 2 problem 2
*Team Hemker 24th place Division 1 Problem 3
*Team Flottmeier 33rd place and their structure held 210 pounds, up from 75 pounds at the state meet.   Division 1 problem 4
*Team Baker 44th place and 94% in spontaneous Division 2 problem 4
*Team Newton 33rd place. Division 1 problem 5

All teams represented West Salem in a positive manner both in competition and on and around Campus.
****and according to the Director of WI and MN OM, West Salem is the only WI school district to ever send 6 teams to world finals.  She personally attended each of our long-term performances and introduced herself to our coaches with her congratulations.

Teams Hein, Baker and Flottmeier competed today (5/21).
Highlights are Flottmeier's ES team structure held 210 lbs, all of Hein's devices completed their tasks and all teams finished under time!  Also, 3 teams represented WI in the creativity booth today.







Mr. Newton's team represented WI by carrying in the state flag at opening ceremonies at Odyssey of the Mind World Finals. Delegates from other WI teams (including WS) joined them.
