The 44th annual DECA District I Career Development conference and competition will take place this Saturday at UW-Stout.
Around 70 students from West Salem's DECA team will be attending the competition. Dressed up and ready to win, the students will compete in categories such as business, marketing management and strategy, hospitality, retail sales and financial services.
There are 17 different individual contests and seven team events. Last year, over 500 students from 16 different high schools competed. Winners and runner-ups of this year's competition will advance to the DECA Career Development Conference in Lake Geneva.
The event is hosted by students at UW-Stout in the Marketing and Business Education Association. Stout is currently the only university in the UW System that offers a bachelor's degree in marketing and business education.
Besides competing, students will be able to network with professionals.
“DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe,” said UW-Stout Professor Urs Haltinner, director of the Ph.D. program in career and technical education.
