"Reality Store" Prepares Students for Financial Future
12/10/2015 8:23 am
Students at West Salem High School participated in the "Reality Store" event on Wednesday. Organized by DECA members Kaylee Mulholland and Allison Rigotti, the event aimed to give students a better understanding of what their financial future holds.
First, students were given a "fate" that determined their monthly salary, housing, number of children and other expenses. Using this fate, they made decisions about their budget and lifestyle.
Community businesses, including First Community Credit Union, Union State Bank, Children's Palace, Pischke, American Family Insurance and Coulee Health, had representatives at the event.
Before the event, surveys showed students' financial knowledge was lacking. A follow-up survey will be conducted to study the impact of the event.
