About Youth Frontiers
West Salem Youth Frontiers Leadership Council is a group of senior leaders dedicated to improving their school and community. Each spring, school staff nominate a small number of juniors based on their leadership skills or leadership potential to take charge during their senior year. These leaders, along with other local high school students, attend a leadership retreat facilitated by Minneapolis-based Youth Frontiers to better understand their responsibility.

A student-driven club, West Salem YF leaders annually identify areas of focus and implement courses of action. Since its inception in the 2015-2016 school year, West Salem YF has raised over $12,000 for the American Cancer Society with school-wide incentivized fundraisers. Wanting to help a neighboring community in need, West Salem YF raised over $3,000 for the De Soto Area School District and De Soto community after flooding ravaged the community in 2016.
