West Salem Middle School Forensics

Forensics is a co-curricular activity offered to students in grades 7 & 8. Forensics provides students the opportunity develop speaking skills they will use throughout life. Students are able to to speak and perform by themselves or with a group, depending on the category chosen. In middle school, the following categories are offered: Readers’ Theatre,  Prose Interpretation, Solo Acting, Storytelling, Play Acting, Four Minute Informative, Poetry Interpretation, Demonstration, Moments in History, Non-Original Oratory, News Reporting, Eight-Minute Persuasive, Extemporaneous, and Special Occasion.
The Forensics season begins the end of November/early December and runs through mid-February. Students participate in the Level I competition held in early February. If they advance, students perform at Level II later in mid-February.

Students are able to practice before school, during their lunch/recess, and after school, so involvement doesn't conflict with their other activities.
