Amy Hanson is the Director of Vocal Music and Drama at West Salem High School. She has taught at West Salem since 1999. Originally from Stratford, Wisconsin, Mrs. Hanson received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree from Viterbo University in 1994. She earned her Masters of Arts in Education degree at Viterbo University in 2002 and her Theatre Arts Education certification in May, 2010.
Her first teaching position was with the Shawano-Gresham School District from 1994-1999 where she taught elementary music and middle school choir. In 1999, Mrs. Hanson moved to West Salem and taught high school choir, middle school choirs and K-1 music. Currently, she teaches full-time vocal music and theatre arts classes at West Salem High School. In addition, Mrs. Hanson directs the high school show choirs (Salem Singsations, Vivace and the Elite Show Choir), the summer musical, fall/winter high school plays, middle school musical and two theatre class productions a year. She is also a co-advisor to the WSHS Drama Club and Pep Club and is currently serving on the WSHS Leadership Team.
In 2001, Mrs. Hanson was awarded the Herb Kohl Fellowship Award and in November 2004, she was selected as the WKBT Teacher of the Month. She was also a member of the West Salem Fine Arts Board for five years.
Amy Hanson enjoys living in the La Crosse area with her husband and two children. She enjoys scrapbooking, directing and performing in musicals and spending time with her family. Mrs. Hanson is a Youth Praise Band Director at English Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
