My name is Ashley Hanson and I am a reading interventionist working here at WSES with students in Kindergarten through 4th grade. I graduated in May 2017 from Viterbo University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood Education. After graduating, I taught 4th grade at WSES for three years before moving into my current position. In May of 2022, I graduated with my master's degree from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. In this program, I earned both my Reading Teacher and Reading Specialist licenses.
My younger sister and many of my cousins have gone to school in West Salem. My family members own businesses here and my parents moved to West Salem when I started college. I have always had deep ties with this community. I have enjoyed continuing to put down my own roots here with my husband, Taylor, and our two dogs, Berkley and Hudson. Every day I get to work with students and families that I love. My favorite thing about living in West Salem and teaching at the elementary school is all of the familiar trick-or-treaters I see on Halloween.
Each year, I build a community of learners within my small groups and share my passion for reading with my students. My goal is to help students realize that no matter their current skill level, they are readers!
